Sanganur Sree Ayyappan Temple, the brain child of a few devout worshippers of Lord Sree Ayyappa has become a mass movement. God Willing. The seed, that was planted in 1983 by a saintly soul Sri. Govinda Gurusamy and nurtured by a few like-minded people over the years has matured into a religious institution flocked by great many devotees from far and wide.
In 1986 the temple site, around 7.5 cents were bought by the committee and the temple of Lord Ganapathy was constructed. Since inception till 2000, “Ayyappan Vilakku” was conducted every year in a grand manner.
In 2000, the Sanganur Sree Ayyappan Seva Samithi decided to construct the Ayyappa Swamy Temple surrounded by the abodes of Lord Ganapathy, Lord Guruvayurappan, Lord Shiva, Goddess Bagavathi, Lord Murugan. Nagaraja, Nagadevi and Navagraha.
Kanippayoor Sri Krishnan Namboodripad has been kind enough to draw the temple layout plan. Temple was constructed by Stabathi Shri Ramesh. As per the saintly advice of sage Chorode Sri Narayana Panicker the idol of “Swamy Ayyappa” has been made in “Panchaloha” by Erode Shri L. Radhakrishnan. Many devotees have magnanimously contributed Gold and Silver for casting the idol of ”Swamy Ayyappa”.
Sri K.P Narayanan Namboodripad had given his consent to take charge as Thanthri . On June 27th Wednesday 2001, Sri Vezha parambil Parameswaran Namboodripad had consecrated the temple and his disciple Sri. K.P. Narayanan Namboodripad took charge as Thanthri.
Since inception, numerous devotees have been visiting the temple to worship “Lord Ayyappa”. Many special poojas are being performed and every year the committee along with devotees celebrate the various special events like “Prathishta day Pooja”, Chathurthi Pooja, Mandala Pooja. Vilakku Pooja. Naga Pooja. Prathosha Pooja, Maha Annadhanam etc.
